There’s many different opinions and theories to life and everything in it. The question is, which of them are real? Conspiracy theories have been around since the early 1790’s and never have really gone out of style since then. There are many different stories, videos and articles about conspiracy theories, all of which really make one think. One of the most shocking conspiracy theories came around 1972, a little after NASA had conducted the first moon landing. Many people believed that this moon landing was fake and it was all set up with green screens and different props (â€Å"Conspiracy Theories†). Along with endless amounts of conspiracy theories comes the most controversial conspiracy theory of them all. The Mandela Effect all started when many people remembered Nelson Mandela passing away when he was in prison for over twenty-seven years, when really he died just a few years ago in 2013. After this theory was sought out, more and more people began noticing things that they misremember, whether it is a small detail in a movie, a misspelling on a book, or even an event that they remember happening differently. The extremely simplified definition of civil disobedience given by Webster†s Dictionary is â€Å"nonviolent opposition to a law through refusal to comply with it, on grounds of conscience. † Thoreau in â€Å"Civil Disobedience† and Martin Luther King in â€Å"Letter from Birmingham Jail† both argue that laws thought of as unjust in one†s mind should not be adhered to. In Herman Melville†s â€Å"Bartleby,† a man named Bartleby is thought of by many to be practicing civil disobedience. And see if there is anything for me† (Melville 116). The boss, who is also the narrator, never requests Bartleby to perform any difficult chores. Martin Luther King, Jr. â€Å"s interpretation of an unjust law is, â€Å"a code that a numerical or power majority group compels a minority group to obey but does not make binding on itself† (Jacobus 159). The injustice described here by King also does not match the characterization of Bartleby†s boss. Bartleby needs no civil disobedience since nothing could be considered unjust in the boss†s management. Even if an unjust act were placed against Bartleby, he would not have had any cares about the injustice. He was a man who needed a place to live and chose to be a law-copyist. He has no desire to do any work and no desire to interact with other humans. Anytime an order was given, the same response would reply from Bartleby†s mouth: â€Å"I would prefer not to† (Melville). Bartleby did not weigh the issues of morality and immorality in his assignments. He just does not want to deal with others. When asked to look over some work with Turkey and Nipping, he refuses. His boss offers him a home, and he refuses this as well. The ending footnote to â€Å"Bartleby† states that Bartleby†s previous profession was a subordinate clerk in the Dead Letters Office in Washington. The dead letters he handled had no association to any living person. Bartleby was accustomed to working at a place where dealing with man is unnecessary. As Thoreau says, â€Å"Dead letters! Does it not sound like dead men? † (Melville 140). Bartleby has no connection with civil disobedience. King and Thoreau†s ideas of what civil disobedience is do not match up with the actions of Bartleby. Bartleby was not trying to make a statement against unjust laws by not abiding by them. He was just a loner. All his refusals to do what was ordered stemmed from his need to be separated from humanity. I also found great extrinsic value in teaching because it provides a great work schedule and I am able to travel the world because education is rooted in every country. I have seen so many classmates of mine who were overlooked because they were not the smartest in the class and those students ended up dropping out or getting into drugs. I want to be able to put more emphasis on the students who are falling behind so that students feel more comfortable with being at school and prevent students from dropping out. Being a teacher requires that you give up a lot of your time and patience in hopes that your students succeed in life. Seeing your students become doctors, lawyers, or maybe even the president of the United States can be very rewarding even though teachers rarely gain recognition for their students accomplishments. However, teachers are rewarded not just intrinsically but extrinsically. One extrinsic reason for why I want to become a teacher is because I get a great work schedule. Teachers get the weekends off, not to mention the summer and winter breaks as well. Being a student I was accustomed to having a summer tofu was able to keep the same lifestyle and still able to go back to my Job when the school year started. Becoming a teacher was very appealing to me because I had a desire to Join the Peace Corps upon graduating college and there are opportunities for teachers to travel around the world and teach in different countries, especially the third world countries. I loved to travel and help others and becoming a teacher gave me the meaner necessary to do both. In conclusion, I know becoming a teacher will be difficult but the rewards are more abundant than the costs. I hope to inspire students to reach out to others and to be able to recognize the problems that stem from our societys culture. I would also love to see those students who are at risk succeeding to their fullest potential. I would love give back those privileges to those who are not as fortunate and travel the world spreading the love of learning in all parts of the world.
